Cyber Safety Workshops

With the post-Covid exponential rise in internet use, social platforms, online games, and various applications, human traffickers have found new opportunities. They create fake websites, gaming apps, social networking sites, and misleading advertisements on different portals to lure and trap youth and children. According to the Crime in India Report 2020, 88% of human trafficking victims in India were women and children, with children constituting 47% of the total.

While spending time with underprivileged kids over the past two years and teaching them foundational skills, I realized that the increased use of mobiles after the pandemic put these young ones and their families at significant risk. I believe that the key to combating this growing threat is through awareness.

I researched and designed a kid-friendly Best Practices presentation to educate children about cyber safety. After many successful awareness and poster creation sessions outlining important safety rules in various slums, I’m confident that these kids and their families are now safer online.

Taking it a step further, my MPowered organization has teamed up with the Cybercrime and Women’s Safety Wing of the Cyberabad Police to organize awareness sessions at the Rao’s chain of schools around Hyderabad.

In these sessions, I explained various dangers in the cyber world and conducted highly engaging Q&A symposia. I presented kids with scenarios of cybercrimes, asked how they would react, and explained best practices to stay safe online. I then appointed thought leaders among them as Cyber Safety Warriors, responsible for having similar discussions with their peers and in their neighborhoods. The Warriors are extremely eager and enthusiastic to take on this important role.

I plan to continue these sessions across different segments of society to create a safer cyber world for everyone around us.
